Mission

Improve soil and water quality in the Middle Cedar Watershed while maintaining the productivity and profitability of our farm economy.

Our Vision

To make the Middle Cedar the first Huc 8 Watershed to verifiably reach the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy Goals of 41% reductions in nitrate loading and 29% reductions in phosphorus loading.

Goals

Cedar River Solutions will serve as a link between the wide range of efforts that are currently underway in the Middle Cedar to improve water quality and reduce catastrophic flood risk to our watershed. Our goals:

  • Nutrient Reduction: Reduce Nitrate loading by 41% and Phosphorus loading by 29% from non-point, agricultural sources.

  • Conservation: Increase adoption of management and edge of field practices that improve soil and water quality.

  • By July 2021:

    • Edge of Field Goals: 10 New Water treatment wetlands, 20 New Bioreactors, 20 New Saturated Buffers

    • 50% year-over-year growth in cover crop usage for 2019 and 2020.

  • Verification: Provide updated progress metrics from across the Middle Cedar watershed

History

The Middle Cedar River has been the epicenter of conservation focus for some time now. There are several projects focusing on targeted HUC 12 watersheds within the Middle Cedar HUC 8. There are also several funding sources for practice implementation available to landowners and farmers. With all of these projects and entities involved it can get overwhelming to know who to turn to and where to begin. That is why Cedar River Solutions was developed in 2019 to bridge the information gap so landowners and producers have a portal to which they can turn to for guidance and answers.
Cedar River Solutions looks forward to facilitating your needs when it comes to conservation so please reach out to us with any questions and we would be happy to help you in any way we can.
